The Home Care Association of Florida invites home care professionals to participate in a three-part educational webinar series that will delve into the nuances of providing therapy in the home. Beginning in January 2018 and concluding in February, this series explores therapy practice management and administration, applicable federal and state laws and regulations, therapy assistant supervision, maintenance therapy, best practices, and other topics in order to show the broad and vital role therapy plays in the home care setting.
Solving the Mystery of What Therapists Can Do in Home Care
01.24.18 • 1:00-2:00pm ET • 1.0 Contact Hour
Do you find yourself frequently wondering how to handle certain patient scenarios because you are unsure exactly what your therapy staff can do in certain situations? Have you had your therapy staff tell you, “That’s not the way the the last agency I worked for did it?” Or as a therapist, have you had an agency tell you “That is how we do it at this agency?” While most providers have a pretty good understanding of the general services a therapist can perform, this session will focus on the nuances of providing therapy services in the home care environment from a state and federal regulatory perspective, and provide answers to questions you thought you knew the answer to, but are now not so sure you do.
Presented by Joyce Boin, PT, MA, Strategic Health Care Solutions, and Patti Heid, MSPT COS-C, Home Care Association of Florida
Maintenance Therapy in Home Care: From Regulation to Reality
01.31.18 • 1:00-2:00pm ET • 1.0 Contact Hour
Since the Jimmo v. Sebelius settlement over four years ago, providers are still left wondering how to appropriately provide reasonable and necessary skilled maintenance therapy to those truly in need of such services. With vague guidance from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and Palmetto GBA, providers are worried they will be denied reimbursement when providing maintenance therapy services. This webinar will provide attendees with a better understanding of the standards governing the provision of maintenance therapy under the Medicare home health benefit as well as how to properly identify patients who are eligible to receive services under this benefit.
Presented by Wendee Brosig, OTR, Foundation Management Services, Inc.
Skilled Therapy Documentation: How Confident Are You That You Are Documenting Your Skills
02.07.18 • 1:00-2:00pm ET • 1.0 Contact Hour
With the ever changing regulations regarding the provision of therapy services in home care and the push for electronic documentation, therapists struggle with how to adequately document the services that they provide in order to prove their case that the services provided were reasonable and necessary. This session will focus on the top reasons why therapy services are denied and how to avoid these mistakes. Attendees will also learn the critical elements contained in quality therapy documentation as well as how to engage your current therapy staff and contractors to tighten up their documentation, leaving little room for speculation by auditors and possible denial.
Presented by Deb Richardson, PT, MBA, Foundation Management Services, Inc.
1.0 continuing education unit will be provided for occupational therapy, speech therapy, skilled nursing and physical therapy per session.
